Allen Morrison – Jazz Journalist, Musician, Songwriter, Lecturer

Allen Webshot - full size 7-28-10Allen Morrison is a music journalist, jazz pianist, songwriter and lecturer on jazz history. A contributing writer for DownBeat Magazine and JazzTimes, he has also written about jazz for The Guardian, Jazziz, and TIDAL Magazine.

As a journalist for DownBeat and others, he has interviewed or profiled such leading jazz musicians as Wynton Marsalis, Herbie Hancock, Chick Corea, Emmet Cohen, Cecile McLorin Salvant, Jon Batiste, Kurt Elling, Bobby McFerrin, and many others. His pop music interviews include such iconic artists as Glen Campbell, Paul Simon, and Donald Fagen. He has covered music festivals around the world including the Newport Jazz Festival and festivals in San Jose, CA; Toronto, Rio de Janeiro, Rome, and St. Petersburg, Russia.

As a pianist, he performs frequently on Long Island and Martha’s Vineyard. And, as a songwriter, he writes English lyrics for the Brazilian singer-songwriter Delia Fischer, whose recent album Beyond Bossa (on Origin Records) features 12 of their collaborations.

His lectures on jazz history have been featured on several leading cruise lines including Cunard and Crystal, as well as at universities, libraries, and before various arts groups.
