Award-winning performing artist and anti-bullying activist Lyle Cogen will bring her acclaimed musical play Sticks & Stones, a story about bullying behavior and how to defuse and prevent it, to students in grades K-4 at the Veeder Elementary School in Albany, NY on Monday, October 3, 2011 at 9:30 A.M. and 2:15 P.M.
Ms. Cogen wrote Sticks & Stones to help children, parents and teachers respond to the epidemic of bullying and cyber-bullying in schools and online. “The show aims to create a positive change in the school culture by bringing the subject of bullying out in the open,” Ms. Cogen said. “It allows children to examine their own behavior and shows them how to stop being ‘bystanders’ and become ‘allies’ instead.”
At the Veeder School, Ms. Cogen will perform an interactive version of the show especially designed for children in grades K-4. Sticks & Stones was commissioned by Tilles Center for the Performing Arts with a grant from the U.S. Department of Justice; it has been performed before thousands of students in theaters and schools throughout the U.S.
